International Travel and Tourism Guide

Like most other motels, we are in a prominent location, easily accessible and our contact details are scattered throughout the Internet and print media. This makes it easy for potential guests AND unfortunately from time to time unscrupulous hawkers and scam artists to find us.

Today we received an account for inclusion in the "International Travel and Tourism Guide" from United Media s.r.o based in the Czech Republic for $USD 971.25. This is yet another example of pro-forma invoicing that has become so commonplace that receiving these requests no longer raises an eyebrow.

United Media have for many years sent out pro-forma invoicing forms for inclusion in such publications as "International Business and Trade Database" and "World Telecommunication Directory". They have had numerous complaints against them to various consumer organisations throughout the world, but continue with what must be an extremely lucrative business.

Pro-forma invoicing relies on motels (and other businesses) inadvertently paying money when they receive the form, falsely believing that it is an invoice for a service that they or the previous motel owners have ordered.

The latest incarnation in the guise of the "International Travel and Tourism Guide" seems to follow the same modus operandi.

We suggest that you commit any such requests to landfill.
