Qualmark Sustainabilty

We have commended Qualmark before on establishing a robust and credible quality assessment programme, however we have expressed our disquiet with the recent hijacking of the assessment criteria by environmental idealism (Refer to our post here)

We have suggested that Qualmark have lost focus on their core quality benchmarking business by mirroring the Labour Party's obsession with the myths of climate change.

This was highlighted by Qualmark's previous newsletter to licence holders. “Responsible Tourism” was mentioned 16 times and “Quality” was not mentioned once.

It is pleasing that Qualmark's latest newsletter sent out today has managed to reserrect the word "Quality" by mentioning it 7 times. However, Qualmark still seem to be keen on their latest catchprase, “Responsible Tourism” by its mention 11 times. It would appear that "Quality" is back on the agenda but is still overshadowed by Qualmark's extramural environmental activities.

In a time of worldwide financial meltdown, the motel industry needs to focus on economic sustainability. This will require an urgent focus on profitability and quality. Trade Associations have a role in promoting profitability and Qualmark have a role in benchmarking quality.

Star rating flouro lightbulbs and worm farms is not going to asssit the long term economic sustainability of the motel industry.
